This self-taught painter was born in 1926 in Antigua, where he would manage a sugar plantation. After traveling through England and Europe, he returned to the island in the 1960s and produced thousands of great paintings and drawings. This magnificent selection is culled from the notable Cowles-Hoard Collection. —Jerry Saltz
